Thirst - Hunger Knows No Friend Part 2

Sometimes I wished I was never deleted stuff!

Two years ago when I made my first attempt at blogging which was a failure by the way, I wrote an article about my love for Halloween and all things scary and now I can’t find it.

Of course my introduction to the dark and macabre was George Romero’s Night of the Living Dead (I was 6 years old when I first saw it) and since then I’ve loved all things creepy. The thrill of being freaked out (when you know it’s all fiction) is entertaining and as a result the horror genre has been a major influence in my life as an artist.

On that note I’d like to talk about vampires. The vampiric genus has always fascinated me. Growing up I’ve read a lot of books, such as I am Legend (vampire/zombie hybrid) to the classic Dracula and watched a lot of films and television series based on our favourite blood suckers. Even on Halloween it was known that which kid was going to be the vampire.

Such a shame the modern vampires have changed drastically from the  razor fanged monsters from ‘Salem’s Lot to sparkling ivory teenagers with super-powers, and thanks to modern culture vampires are no longer a thing to be feared but a creature synonymous to sex and all things beautiful. Personally I love the combination of both, after all I had the biggest crush on Gerain Wyn Davies but loved how he creeped me out when his eyes glowed.

Two years ago I did a capture (I refuse to call it photography) called Hunger Knows No Friend and the story I was trying to convey is about the power of greed and lust in contention with friendship and how sometimes our own selfish desires can over-power morals, I used a vampire-based picture to represent this concept (Ayn Rand would be so proud of me right now)
Diarmuid - Hunger Knows No Friend

This year I decided to simply do a picture which is largely influenced by Hunger Knows No Friend without any story-lines or hidden meaning behind it.. I just did it because I love doing this. That plus I needed to clear my mind after a horrible day yesterday working on a project which I had to scrap because I was not pleased with the result.

So here I present to you The Thirst.
